On 4 May 2019, I had the opportunity to visit the Google Malaysia office in Kuala Lumpur and deliver a presentation on a subject close to my heart, empowering citizen journalists. The session centered on how everyday people can contribute to Google Maps and why these contributions matter in shaping the way we understand and navigate our communities.

The context of my was highlight that how can citizen journalists can use Google Maps not just as a navigation tool, but as a platform for storytelling, documentation, and data-sharing. By adding reviews, photos, local updates, and corrections, individuals help improve accuracy and accessibility for everyone. This process transforms Google Maps into more than a digital map, it becomes a living archive shaped by citizens themselves.

The event was made possible thanks to my dear friend Stephen Abraham, whose support and collaboration brought the session to life, and to Pavel Sarwar, who introduced me to other meaningful initiatives from Google that aim to harness technology for public good.
Looking back five years later, I am proud of that moment, which combined technology, media, and civic responsibility into one powerful conversation. Citizen journalists truly hold the key to making information more transparent, inclusive, and community-driven.
