I am truly honoured and Thankful to DTM Huei Ying Lim, Division P Director for District 51 Toastmasters, for engaging me to conduct a Mentoring Session for newly elected Vice Presidents Education of Division P-clubs on how to be an impactful VPE.
This session reminded me of my own rocky journey as a VPE during the 2020–2021 period. In the past, our newly founded YMCA KL TMC encountered various challenges, especially having only 7 active members out of the desired 20. Every club meeting used to be a challenge, with everyone doing multiple roles (sometimes me as VPE doing five roles at a time, which is certainly not recommended).
However, after learning the hard way, I realised the significance of effective delegation, honing interpersonal skills, reaching out for external assistance, offering and accepting support from other clubs, etc. Despite so many challenges, I was blessed with the incredible support of DTM Samuel Sham as President and TM Santhy Dewi Pillai as Vice President Membership. With our awesome team effort, we earned the title of one of the best Toastmasters clubs in Malaysia by earning a Perfect 10 DCP.
During this mentoring session, my objective was to discuss the roles and responsibilities of VPEs, different case studies, ethical dilemmas, and routine challenges faced by any VPE during their term.
Volunteering for Toastmasters is a wonderful opportunity to not only enhance your public speaking abilities but also cultivate valuable leadership skills. I am truly grateful for the transformative experiences that have shaped me on this journey. It fills my heart with joy and enthusiasm to have the opportunity to give back and serve as a mentor.
